STUDY AND EXAM REQUIREMENTS IN BIOCHEMISTRY
2011/12 YEAR 1ST SEMESTER GENERAL MEDICINE and DENTISTRY According to the Study and Exam Regulations of University of Szeged Study requirements and checking knowledge Attendance of lectures (Biochemistry I. lecture AOK-KA021, FOG-KA021) is obligatory (see enclosed schedule of lectures). Lecture will be accepted with the end-semester-exam.
Active participation at the practices and seminars (Biochemistry I. practice AOK-KA022, FOG-KA022) is required (see enclosed program of practices, at "Nagyoktatási" IV. floor) which will be accpeted with signature. Students are obliged to take lab notes, which have to be signed by the practical teacher at the end of each practice; the labnotes have to be presented and will be checked at the end semester exam. It is obligatory for students to use the labware and lab equipments carefully and according to the protocol.
From the seminars and practices, 3 absences are allowed during one semester. Substitution of missed practices could be performed on the same week with another group. There is no possibility to perform the missed practices at the end of the semester!! In case of more than 3 absences the practical course wont be accepted and in this case the student cannot take the end-semester-exam.
During the semester, two MTOs can be taken. The 1st MTO will be in written form (test and assay questions) and involves theoretical and practical questions. Test questions to practise will be available on the website of the Institute. Time of the 1st MTO: on the 8th educational week (24-28th of October), topics: enzymology, metabolism of carbohydrates. The result of the 1st MTO will influence the number of topics at the end-semester exams (see table). Retake of mid-term-exam is not possible!! In case of very good (5) or good (4) result of the 1st MTO, students have possibility to write a 2nd MTO on the 12th educational week (topic: metabolism of lipids and amino acids), and then the average of the two written exams will influence the number of topics at the end-semester exams or give a chance to get very good (5) or good (4) as end semester exam mark. In case of acceptance of ESE result (4 or 5), it can be registered only after visiting Biochemistry lectures (present sheet) during 13-15 educational weeks.
Body development and diseases-molecular biology background course is one of the compulsory elective subjects for the students. (AOK-KA1771) Acceptance of this lecture will be with „practical mark” (3 graded evaluation) Exam requirements The students have to take an oral end semester exam. Preparation is to be done according to the theoretical and practical topic lists.
Students have to sign up for the exam at the ETR, the Institute can accept max. 8-10 students per a day. Site of the exam is the Institute of Biochemistry (Dóm square 9, 2nd floor), start is at 8 am. Exams of dentistry students are handled separately from general medicine program. Repetition of exams is according to the general regulations of the Study and the Exam Requirements of the University. In case of unsuccesful ESE: Biochemistry I exam course can be taken during the spring exam term. Final exam can be taken only in case of successful ESE. After unsuccesful ESE in spring exam term, students have to repeat Biochemistry I lecture and Biochemistry I Practical, Biochemistry II lecture and Biochemistry II practical courses during 2012/13 academic year. Present sheet will be prepared during all courses and 75% of the course should be visited, otherwise we cannot except the course.
Repeater students of this semester must visit Biochemistry I lectures and sign the present sheet. The course can be accepted in case of presence at minimum 75% of the lectures!!! 8th of August, 2011 Dr. László Dux Head of the Institute |
